A stalled frontal boundary across the southern Mid-Atlantic and Southeast will bring a few days of unsettled weather. Gulf moisture pooling along the front will fuel repeated rounds of showers and thunderstorms. With a very humid airmass in place, heavy rainfall rates are likely, and waves of low pressure moving along the boundary will help expand storm coverage. This setup raises the risk for localized flash flooding, especially in low-lying and poor drainage areas. The greatest concern for excessive rainfall today stretches from Virginia to Florida, with the highest risk over southwest Virginia, western North Carolina, and western South Carolina. Storms will shift slightly eastward Saturday into Sunday, while lighter, more beneficial rain spreads into the Mid-Atlantic and southern New England before conditions dry out again by Monday.

Out west, an upper-level low will cut off and linger over southern California and southwest Arizona in the coming days. This system will continually pull in enhanced moisture, leading to daily chances of widespread showers and thunderstorms across the Southwest. Heavy rainfall rates could trigger flash flooding, with burn scars and slot canyons in southern Arizona and southwest New Mexico most at risk today. Flooding threats will expand into central New Mexico over the weekend.

Elsewhere, high pressure will dominate much of the nation, keeping conditions dry and unseasonably warm. Across the northern tier, temperatures will soar 10–20 degrees above normal, reaching the 70s and 80s, with some areas of the central U.S. and northern Plains pushing into the low 90s by Sunday. In contrast, cloudier and stormier regions of the Southeast and Southwest will remain cooler, with highs running 5–10 degrees below average.
