The Nor’easter that impacted the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast is moving away today into the Canadian Maritimes. Gusty winds will continue across the Northeast this morning, gradually decreasing by this evening.
A clipper system will move across the north-central U.S. today, bringing a burst of heavy snow to the Great Lakes region. Snow will taper off tonight into Wednesday, but lake-effect snow will continue downwind of the Great Lakes through Wednesday. Some snow showers may extend into the northern Mid-Atlantic and Northeast.
Out West, a slow-moving system will bring unsettled weather through Wednesday. Heavy mountain snow is expected in the Cascades and northern Rockies. Northern California will see heavy rain today, with a risk of flooding near steep terrain, especially around the northern Sierra Nevada and nearby foothills. Rain should decrease tonight as the system weakens.
By Wednesday, this system will push southeast across the Plains and toward the Southeast by Thursday. Wintry precipitation is possible in the northern Plains, while thunderstorms may develop in the Southeast.
Temperatures will remain well above average across much of the western and central U.S. through the work week. The East Coast will see below-average temperatures today, warming closer to normal by Wednesday. Cooler-than-average temperatures will also follow the clipper system across the Great Lakes and Northeast into Thursday.
